Our take on Rift Wizard
Rather than centering exploration, quests, or a long narrative, the game concentrates on combat decisions and build construction. Its 25-level runs, limited resources, permanent death, and board-game-like structure make strategic encounter solving the main event of the RPG format.
What is Rift Wizard?
Rift Wizard is a turn-based fantasy roguelike about an immortal amnesiac wizard rebuilding a spellbook and hunting a rival.
Each run covers 25 randomly generated levels containing procedural combat challenges. More than 100 spells and abilities, along with passive skills, support open-ended character development and combinations between effects. Combat emphasizes planning, creativity, and player control, with limited randomness, scarce resources, high difficulty, and permanent death. Monster designs vary across encounters. The game uses 1990s-inspired retro RPG visuals and places combat and character construction ahead of plot or exploration. Its structure is closer to a board game than a conventional role-playing game, with battles and build decisions forming the main loop.
