Our take on RICO
The focus on changing action cases and short police raids leaves less room for a detailed, linear detective story. Online co-op is also sacrificed: although the game supports local two-player play, online servers were disabled in early 2024.
What is RICO?
RICO is a first-person action shooter about two police detectives pursuing criminal gangs under a 24-hour deadline.
Cases are procedurally generated, so enemy encounters and objectives vary between runs. Players choose a loadout, use surprise to gain a tactical advantage, and unlock weapons, traits, and mission types as they progress. Daily Play provides recurring cases with leaderboards and rewards. The game supports solo play and local co-op for two players. Online servers were disabled in early 2024, so online play is no longer supported. Its structure combines short police raids with changing case layouts and progression unlocks.
How RICO plays
- 01Generated Cases
- Each case changes the situations and opponents encountered during a run.
- 02Loadout Selection
- Players choose equipment before entering a case and can use surprise to gain a tactical advantage.
- 03Progression Unlocks
- Weapons, traits, and mission types become available through play.
- 04Local Two-Player Co-op
- A second player can join missions locally as part of the two-detective team.
- 05Daily Play
- Daily cases include leaderboards and rewards for comparing performance.
RICO compared to similar games
RICO focuses on procedurally generated first-person police raids, loadout choices, unlockable weapons and local two-player co-op. Abyssus also centers on multiplayer shooting, but uses hand-crafted levels, roguelite progression and brine-powered weapons that can be refitted with ancient technologies.
