Our take on Return from Core
The store presentation gives equal weight to mining, automation, exploration, companions, and base building, so the central rhythm is easy to overlook: repeated resource extraction feeds construction and production before the journey to the surface can continue.
What is Return from Core?
Return from Core is an underground sandbox adventure set after the destruction of surface civilization.
Players extract resources with a pickaxe or explosives, then use ores and rare materials for construction, production, and equipment upgrades. Exploration leads through caverns and human ruins containing lost technologies, hostile creatures, and clues about humanity’s downfall. Monster Girl companions can become combat allies and provide exploration abilities after players earn their trust. At the base, companions can assist with farming, cooking, gathering, and production. Base construction includes workbenches, furniture, production areas, living spaces, and defenses. Players can build machinery, automated production lines, and logistics systems, including equipment intended to support a return to the surface.
