Our take on Refraction: Beyond the Mirror
The game shifts horror exploration between a mansion and its mirrored counterpart, where access to locations can differ. Its threat structure also departs from combat-driven horror: the creature cannot be fought, so hiding and moving between worlds are central to escape.
What is Refraction: Beyond the Mirror?
Refraction: Beyond the Mirror places the protagonist inside a mansion inherited from their deceased grandfather, where escaping becomes the central challenge.
Though the building initially appears deserted, its past is connected to a parallel Mirror World. Some rooms inaccessible in the mansion can be reached on the other side. Players examine the house, locate Runes and an Altar, and operate mirrors to move between both realms while seeking an exit. A creature roams the mansion, tracking the protagonist through vision and scent. Combat is unavailable, making concealment necessary. Beginning the ritual rouses the creature, which then defends the house, while the surrounding darkness presents an additional threat.
How Refraction: Beyond the Mirror plays
- 01Two versions of the mansion
- Some locations blocked in one world may be accessible in the other, so players move between both versions while exploring.
- 02Mirror-based travel
- Mirrors allow passage between the mansion and its counterpart in the Mirror World.
- 03Ritual escape search
- Letters found around the house point to a ritual involving Runes and an Altar whose locations remain to be found.
- 04Creature evasion
- The creature can detect the protagonist by sight and smell, cannot be fought, and must be avoided by hiding.
