Our take on Reflections
Reflections gives up a fixed, predictable narrative in favor of actions that can reshape later events and locations. The trade-off is a story path that depends on choices and may require experimentation to reveal their consequences.
What is Reflections?
Reflections is an adventure game about preparing to leave home and begin adult life.
During a single day, activities such as organizing responsibilities, building relationships, and exploring shape what follows. Its Storyteller engine incorporates actions into the narrative, allowing the course of the game to change according to what happens. Time advances during play, affecting available opportunities and events. Relationships with characters and creatures can continue across the protagonist’s life.
Choices may also alter later details, landscapes, and story developments. The world begins in black and white and gains color as actions progress, with these changes offering clues about possible outcomes. The game supports Oculus Rift and Tobii EyeX eye tracking for object selection, a wider camera view, and character interactions involving eye contact.
How Reflections plays
- 01Choice-driven narrative
- The Storyteller engine uses actions throughout the game to modify later events, objects, landscapes, and other parts of the story.
- 02Three-act structure
- The experience covers three stages of the protagonist’s life, with major differences based on earlier decisions.
- 03Changing opportunities
- The passage of time affects which activities and events become available during play.
- 04Interactive environments
- Objects and surroundings can be used during activities such as tidying responsibilities, exploring, and developing relationships.
- 05Relationship system
- Characters and creatures respond to the player and can remain part of the protagonist’s life.
- 06Tobii EyeX support
- Eye tracking can control object selection, expand the camera view, and add eye-contact interactions with characters.
