We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…

- Retro-shooter fans who want fast firefights and a bullet-hell pace
- Players seeking a structured campaign of handcrafted levels with boss encounters
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want slow, deliberate combat may hit a wall when firefights demand continued movement and shooting.
- Players who prefer open-ended progression may find the 10-level campaign's increasing difficulty and stage structure restrictive.
- Players looking for multiplayer shooting will not find a multiplayer mode in the described game.
Our take on Quell 4D
The likely sticking point is the combat loop: players who cannot keep moving while firing may hit a wall during the bullet-hell firefights. The mount-based steering and classic touchpad option change how movement is controlled, but the combat still calls for constant motion.
What is Quell 4D?
Quell 4D is a single-player VR shooter set in The Lagoreatory, where Murderman investigates an outbreak of mutated gene experiments.
Its campaign has 10 hand-crafted levels with increasing difficulty, moving from an office complex through laboratory and other areas. Combat uses six weapons against varied enemies and three bosses, each with distinct mechanics, strengths and weaknesses. Firefights are built around constant movement and shooting, with bullet-hell action. Movement uses Mucus, an omnidirectional slime mount steered by pointing a controller and holding the trigger; classic touchpad movement is also available. Players can explore freely in VR, collect key-cards, weapons and helmets, and find health bars and blood bags.
