Our take on Primal Planet
The mix of exploration, crafting, combat, and co-op adds variety, but it also asks players to manage several systems instead of focusing solely on platforming or story progression.
What is Primal Planet?
Primal Planet is a pixel-art metroidvania with survival and crafting systems, set on a planet inhabited by dinosaurs and ancient aliens.
The story follows a cave dweller protecting his family after a T-Rex attack. Exploration spans forests, plains, mountains, and underwater areas, each with hazards and secrets. Natural materials can be turned into tools, weapons, and mixtures for healing or protection, while experience improves skills. Combat supports crafted weapons, traps, bait, stealth, and tactical adjustments against regular and boss enemies. Local co-op allows a second player to join at any time as Sino, a sinosauropteryx companion. Together, players can solve puzzles, overcome obstacles, and fight enemies.
How Primal Planet plays
- 01Survival crafting
- Natural materials become equipment, weapons, and mixtures used for healing or defense.
- 02Biome exploration
- The journey crosses forests, plains, mountains, and ocean depths containing distinct hazards and secrets.
- 03Tactical combat
- Encounters support traps, bait, stealth, crafted weapons, and different approaches to regular and boss enemies.
- 04Local two-player play
- A second participant can enter during play as Sino, who gains skills and develops over the adventure.
