Our take on Power Champions
Its build and ascension systems favor repeated combat and incremental growth, but that focus leaves less room for the stealth, dialogue, and exploration found in other action-RPG structures.
What is Power Champions?
Power Champions is a hack-and-slash action RPG set across Zarion and other planets.
Players control one of Ellora’s elemental gods while fighting hordes of automatons and following missions tied to the main quest or the people of Zarion. Cards, artifacts, mythical cards, quests, and map achievements provide equipment, skins, and character progression. Cards shape a build, while Power Points improve damage, defense, and speed. Boss maps provide artifacts, and grind maps contain enemy-dropped treasures that can hold cards. After completing the journey, the ascension system allows the main quests to be replayed without removing items, power, or achievements. Graphic options include a cell-shaded appearance or a more realistic view without outline color.
How Power Champions plays
- 01Build-based combat
- Collected cards alter damage, defense, and speed, allowing different combinations to shape each champion.
- 02Mission types
- The game includes main-story missions and tasks received from Zarion’s inhabitants, with rewards tied to progression and items.
- 03Multiple item sources
- Boss victories, enemy treasures, and post-completion quests provide different categories of cards and artifacts.
- 04Ascension progression
- Completed main missions can be repeated while retaining items, power, and achievements.
- 05Graphics options
- Visual presentation can use a cell-shaded style or omit outline coloring for a more realistic appearance.
Power Champions compared to similar games
Power Champions centers on hack-and-slash combat, card-based builds, boss rewards, and repeatable main quests. Dungeon Defenders: Awakened combines action RPG combat with cooperative tower defense and includes loot, leveling, pets, and character customization. Ghost of a Tale instead emphasizes immersion, exploration, stealth, disguises, and conversations in an animal-populated medieval world.
