Our take on Poems & Codes
The store emphasis falls on the poetry collection and Project Gutenberg donation, while the main activity is repeated substitution-cipher decoding. The full-poem access and four difficulty settings add context, but do not change that core structure.
What is Poems & Codes?
Poems & Codes turns poetry into substitution-cipher puzzles.
Players decipher more than 400 excerpts spanning subjects from love to despair, with four difficulty options and a reflective soundtrack. After solving an excerpt, players can read the complete poem in the game or use included links to find the poet’s anthology online. Display choices include night and sunlight modes, and the cipher text can be enlarged. The game also includes brief poet biographies. Some poems and biographies refer briefly to violence, substance use, sexual topics, and suicide without graphic detail. Ten percent of each purchase goes to Project Gutenberg, an online library.
