Our take on PLONG
The run-based structure trades fixed level mastery for changing combinations of abilities, upgrades, and modifiers. That variation supports repeat attempts, but players seeking a carefully authored sequence of stages may find the shifting structure less suitable.
What is PLONG?
PLONG is an arcade brick-breaking roguelike set in 1998, where the player takes the role of a rogue virus moving through file systems.
Each run combines abilities and upgrades differently, creating a changing challenge. Progress between runs comes from collecting valuable files, which also support customization of the PLONG application. The game includes five abilities, more than twenty modifiers, randomly created stages, a Daily Run mode, and additional paddles. It is intended for short arcade sessions and is compatible with Steam Deck.
How PLONG plays
- 01Run-Based Upgrades
- Abilities and upgrades are recombined for each attempt, while collected files support progress between runs.
- 02Ability Modifiers
- The game includes five abilities and more than twenty modifiers to vary brick-breaking runs.
- 03Generated Stages
- Stage layouts are created procedurally rather than fixed across every playthrough.
- 04Daily Run Mode
- A separate mode provides a daily version of the arcade challenge.
- 05Steam Deck Support
- The game is compatible with Steam Deck hardware.
