Our take on Pilo and the Holobook
The emphasis is on collecting discoveries and filling the Holobook, while the puzzle element is described as light. Players expecting extensive puzzle challenges may find that part of the experience modest in scope.
What is Pilo and the Holobook?
Pilo is an apprentice explorer travelling through the XOP-642 star system to document its planets and investigate the Tar, a dark force spreading across them.
Exploration centers on the Holobook: discoveries become stickers that fill an in-game encyclopedia, record progress, unlock abilities, and support environmental puzzles. The book can also interact with creatures and surroundings, and temporarily push back the Tar. Planets contain distinct plants, animals, and ecosystems to observe. Rather than combat, the game uses peaceful exploration and problem-solving as Pilo encounters creatures affected by the Tar and uncovers its origins. The story also touches on mentorship, friendship, and environmental decay.
