We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want both turn-based and real-time matches
- Groups seeking local or online games with up to 8 participants
- Players who enjoy creating custom maps and adjusting game rules
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a narrative campaign or a tightly scripted progression
- Players who prefer short, fixed rulesets over adjustable settings and map creation
- Players looking for a strategy game centered on fluid terrain rather than hexagonal territory
Our take on Periculum
The broad ruleset trades focused pacing for flexibility. Custom maps, adjustable limits, several victory conditions, and two timing systems create room for varied matches, but players seeking a tightly controlled strategy format may find the range of options distracting.
What is Periculum?
Conquer hexagonal territory while collecting Gold, Wood, Stone, and Fish.
Matches can use turn-based or real-time play, with more than 7 modes including Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Economy, Conquer, Regicide, and Battle Royale. Build structures such as Universities, Marketplaces, Houses, and walls, then deploy Infantry, Cavalry, Archers, and Cannons with different movement, range, health, and damage characteristics. Games support up to 8 players, including online or local players and bots, with team and color options. A level editor allows custom maps to be created and shared. Settings can modify resource lifespan, troop limits, and map visibility. Play uses mouse and keyboard on one screen or motion controllers in virtual reality.
