RPGIs Parasite worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Survival horror fans who want possession to be central to play
- RPG players who prefer open-ended city exploration and character evolution
- Players seeking medium-length roguelike sessions of around 2–3 hours
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a finished game may stop at the current development stage, where GUI work, balancing, and polish remain.
- Players wanting long continuous campaigns may find the planned 2–3-hour session structure too brief.
- Players looking for a linear adventure may not want the separate sandbox mode and generated city.
Our take on Parasite
Players who need a polished interface may bounce off during the first sessions, where unfinished GUI work can interrupt navigation and interaction. Those expecting a fully balanced release may also hit a wall when difficulty settings and survival systems produce uneven results.
What is Parasite?
Parasite is a roguelike survival horror game set in a generated modern-day city.
The player controls a parasite that possesses human hosts to survive, using their inventory, skills, and knowledge while developing new abilities and physical features. A story scenario begins with the protagonist alone, frightened, and without memories, while an event timeline supports investigating the past and deciding what to do next. Sandbox mode provides a separate way to explore and play.
Habitats can be built and improved for rest and recovery, and difficulty settings apply to key parts of the game. Human opponents actively search for and destroy threats. Sessions are planned to take around 2–3 hours, and the game is currently in development with GUI work, balancing, and polish still needed.
How Parasite plays
- 01Host possession
- Taking control of human bodies is required for survival, with death occurring quickly without a host.
- 02City exploration
- Each game includes a generated modern urban environment to explore.
- 03Host development
- Host abilities, learned information, and carried items form separate systems, while evolution adds improvements and body features.
- 04Habitat construction
- Built locations provide places for the parasite and its hosts to rest and recover.
- 05Timeline investigation
- An event timeline connects discoveries about earlier events with the next steps in the story.
- 06NPC conversations
- Talking with non-player characters can produce different benefits.
