We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Mech simulator fans who want detailed cockpit controls and system management
- Solo players seeking a campaign with patrol, combat, and reconnaissance missions
- Mission creators who want to build terrain, forces, events, and AI behaviors
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a lightweight combat loop may find the cockpit systems and subsystem management demanding
- Those seeking multiplayer battles may find the single-player focus restrictive
- Players who do not use VR or HOTAS may not want a title that emphasizes cockpit hardware controls
Our take on OVRLRD
The cockpit simulation makes system monitoring part of combat, trading a simpler pick-up-and-play loop for attention to heat, coolant, sensors, and mechanical damage.
What is OVRLRD?
OVRLRD is a mech combat simulator centered on piloting a large bipedal weapons platform from an interactive cockpit.
Controls include buttons, switches, levers, throttles, and joysticks, operated with a mouse, keyboard, HOTAS, or VR controllers. The single-player campaign includes patrols, long-range engagements, and reconnaissance missions. Combat ranges from close-quarters mech fighting to artillery strikes, while piloting requires monitoring heat, coolant, sensors, targeting, drone optics, and leg stability. Skirmish modes vary the battlefield, and a mission editor supports terrain, cities, armies, triggers, scripted events, and AI behaviors. Environments can be damaged, with structures and terrain showing the effects of combat.
How OVRLRD plays
- 01Cockpit systems management
- Operators monitor temperature, coolant, sensors, targeting, drone optics, leg stability, and damaged subsystems during combat.
- 02Mission editor
- Tools cover terrain and city building, army setup, triggers, scripted events, and AI behavior.
- 03Reactive environments
- Combat can leave buildings broken, craters and scorch marks, and footprints that reveal enemy mech movement.
- 04VR and HOTAS controls
- The cockpit can be operated with VR controllers or HOTAS, as well as a mouse and keyboard.
- 05Variable skirmish battlefields
- Skirmish modes change the battlefield and include destructible buildings and forests.
