Our take on Orbitect
Rather than centering direct combat, this action-strategy game makes station construction the main decision point while weapons operate automatically. Its roguelite structure also ties defeat to permanent progression, replacing a purely reset-based run cycle with carryover improvements.
What is Orbitect?
Build a free-form space station from resources collected by destroying waves of debris.
Weapons fire automatically, leaving station construction as the main focus during each run. Debris becomes increasingly difficult to destroy, with survival measured across up to 100 waves. New weapons and defensive options become available during a run and can be upgraded. Permanent improvements purchased between attempts carry forward to later runs, including after defeat. The game combines station construction, roguelite progression, and tower-defense elements in a space setting.
How Orbitect plays
- 01Free-form stations
- Collected resources can be used to arrange space stations without a stated fixed layout.
- 02Automated weapons
- Weapons attack incoming debris without requiring manual firing.
- 03Run-based upgrades
- Weapons and defensive choices can be unlocked and improved during an attempt.
- 04Persistent improvements
- Between-run purchases remain available for future attempts, including after a failed run.
- 05Escalating debris waves
- The debris threat grows over successive waves, with survival extending to wave 100.
Orbitect compared to similar games
Orbitect combines free-form space-station construction, automated debris defense, and permanent upgrades between runs. Creeper World 4 focuses on real-time strategy across 3D terrain, economic expansion, and forces against fluid-like enemies, while Astro Prospector centers on building a ship, surviving 21 days, and choosing from weapons and upgrades.
