Choose a hero with distinct abilities and defend a castle against successive enemy attacks.
Kills provide experience for units, while surviving rounds yields loot and money for recruiting AI-controlled allies, buying equipment, improving the castle, and upgrading the shop. Allies can gain levels, stat improvements, and new abilities through purchases, items, or perks. Unit classes can produce bonuses when combined in specific numbers, and team formation affects these interactions. Weapons and relics can be assigned to any unit, with effects that develop during a run; gold can also modify weapons at the anvil. Hero control may be manual or automated. Run currency can purchase permanent improvements, with 89 available currently. Completing a run opens additional challenges.
