ActionIs Operation Hardcore worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy side-scrolling shooters with quick action and varied weapons.
- Pairs looking for a local two-player shooter with cooperative or competitive play.
- Players who like spending collected coins on between-level upgrades and pursuing level-time ranks.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a slow, deliberate pace may hit a wall in the twitch-focused shooting and forced-scrolling stages.
- Those who prefer a short, fixed progression may find the 12-level campaign and its multiple difficulty settings, upgrade paths, and secret areas a mismatch.
- Players looking for online multiplayer rather than local two-player play.
- Players who do not want coin collection tied to between-level purchases.
Our take on Operation Hardcore
The pressure point is the forced-scrolling jetpack sections: players who need time to explore or line up every shot may struggle when the level keeps moving. Whiskey also trades mental clarity for slower time and greater damage, so that mechanic may frustrate players who dislike a drawback attached to a combat boost.
What is Operation Hardcore?
Operation Hardcore is a 2D side-scrolling shooter set during an alien invasion of Earth in 1999.
Fight enemies with a range of weapons, double-jump past hazards, and use a plasma shield to deflect incoming fire. Whiskey slows time and raises damage while reducing mental clarity. Some stages use forced scrolling and a jetpack. Between levels, spend collected coins on items, weapons, and upgrades. The game has 12 levels, four playable characters, multiple difficulty settings, secret areas, and upgrade paths. Meeting or beating level par times earns a rank. Play alone or in local two-player co-op, with achievements and unlockable content also available.
How Operation Hardcore plays
- 01Time-slowing whiskey
- Drinking it increases damage as well, but reduces mental clarity.
- 02Coin purchases
- Coins collected during play can be spent between levels on items, weapons, and upgrades.
- 03Local co-op
- A second player can join for cooperative or competitive play on the same local session.
- 04Par-time ranks
- Finishing a level at or faster than its target time earns a rank.
- 05Multiple difficulty settings
- Difficulty options accompany upgrade paths and secret areas.
