Our take on Running on Magic
The game presents an accessible, cozy run, but higher settings change the pace and reduce both pickups and health. The hardest mode allows only one hit, while endless mode keeps increasing speed, so the experience can shift from relaxed obstacle-jumping to high-pressure runs.
What is Running on Magic?
Running on Magic is a forced-scroll platformer about a mage trying to escape the Grim Reaper.
Jump over pits, platforms, and blob creatures, and use abilities such as floating and stomping to get through obstacles. Magic pickups fuel these abilities. Dynamically created levels span 5 themed worlds rendered in pixel art. The game offers 4 difficulty settings; higher settings increase the speed, reduce pickups, and lower the wizard’s health. In the hardest mode, one hit ends the run. An endless mode continually increases the speed and includes a leaderboard for sharing scores. The story follows the mage and the Grim Reaper, who tries to persuade the mage to come along.
How Running on Magic plays
- 01Magic-Fueled Movement
- Collect magic during a run to power floating and stomping abilities.
- 02Four Difficulty Settings
- Higher settings raise the pace, reduce pickups, and lower the wizard’s health.
- 03Endless Mode
- Speed keeps rising, and scores can be shared on a leaderboard.
- 04Five Themed Worlds
- The pixel-art stages are set across 5 themed worlds.

SUPER CHICKEN JUMPER is also described as a runner, but it adds shooting to running, jumping, and dodging. Running on Magic centers on a mage’s platforming abilities, magic pickups, and escape from a pursuer; Sonic Origins is a collection of four classic Sonic games rather than a single runner-platformer setup.
