Is Opaline worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- RPG players who prefer stories centered on two teenage protagonists rather than adult heroes
- Dungeon explorers who want hidden rooms and relics alongside the main journey
- Players who choose games with selectable challenge modes instead of one fixed difficulty
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a single-party RPG may find the separate groups, characters, and inventories cumbersome
- Players wanting a purely linear journey may tire of searching dungeons, collecting relics, and completing sidequests
- Players looking for management, crafting, or puzzle-focused gameplay will find those activities outside this RPG's stated structure
Our take on Opaline
Players may bounce off the split-party system when they must track two groups with separate characters and inventories. Those expecting a compact, single-route adventure may also hit a wall once dungeon exploration, secret rooms, relic collection, and sidequests become part of the routine.
What is Opaline?
Opaline is a 16-bit RPG about Gallow and Liza, two teenagers drawn together by a threat called the Blight.
Gallow leaves the village of Hermon after the Crusaders summon him, while Liza secretly follows and discovers her own powers after a monster attack. Players control two separate parties, each with its own characters and inventory, while exploring dungeons with visible monsters and mouse control. The game includes secret rooms, up to 14 relics to collect, encounters with people who need assistance, and sidequests. Three modes—easy, normal, and hard—set the intended challenge. The story also follows whether Gallow and Liza can remain together as their destinies pull them apart.

Opaline compared to similar games
Opaline combines a 16-bit RPG story with visible monsters, two separate parties, dungeon secrets, relic collection, and sidequests. Hero of the Kingdom is also an adventuring RPG, but its description emphasizes a serene journey without time pressure rather than split parties, dungeon secrets, or selectable difficulty modes.
