We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Flight-simulation fans who want combat missions rather than civilian aviation
- Players seeking aircraft combat with detailed physics and damage systems
- Groups wanting cooperative or competitive multiplayer missions they can host
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a story-driven campaign with a fixed narrative structure
- Players who prefer simple arcade flight without stalls, spins, g-force effects, or part-specific damage
- Players looking for a ground-focused strategy game rather than direct aircraft control
Our take on Nuclear Option
Rather than limiting combat flight to fixed sorties, the game combines detailed aircraft simulation with persistent battlefields, custom mission creation, and player-hosted multiplayer. Its use of nuclear weapons and individually simulated aircraft components also pushes beyond the standard fighter-duel format.
What is Nuclear Option?
Nuclear Option is a near-future air-combat game set across shifting battlefields.
It features 13 aircraft, ranging from fighters and helicopters to bombers, trainers, and vertical-takeoff models, alongside AI-controlled aircraft and ground vehicles. Flight simulation includes stalls, spins, g-force effects, aerodynamic control surfaces, and damage to separate aircraft parts that changes how a plane handles. Cockpit displays identify targets and provide flight data such as the aircraft’s angle relative to the airflow, its direction and speed through the air, rate of ascent, g-force, and height above radar level.
Weapons include guns, missiles, bombs, cruise and ballistic missiles, countermeasures, and nuclear weapons. A mission editor supports custom scenarios for solo play or multiplayer. Players can host cooperative or competitive sessions, with a browser for public lobbies.
How Nuclear Option plays

- The roster includes fighters, bombers, helicopters, trainers, a utility aircraft, and vertical-takeoff models.
- 02Part-based damage
- Each aircraft has 30–50 detachable components whose condition influences flight behavior.
- 03Custom mission editor
- Players can create scenarios and fly them alone or in multiplayer.
- 04Dynamic battlefields
- AI ground and air units fight across persistent terrain where wreckage and smoke remain.
- 05Nuclear weapons
- The arsenal includes tactical and strategic nuclear weapons with simulated shockwave effects.
