Is NovaMundi worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- RPG players who want exploration alongside tactical combat
- Strategy players interested in diplomacy, recruitment, and faction conflict
- Players who enjoy repeated runs with changing maps and configurable challenges
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a fixed map may not enjoy starting exploration again when a party dies.
- Players looking for forgiving combat may dislike healing delays and deaths that remove party members.
- Players wanting a narrowly focused combat game may find the recruitment, survival, diplomacy, and exploration systems too broad.
Our take on NovaMundi
The changing-map structure supports repeated expeditions, but it gives up the consistency of a fixed world. Party deaths, recovery periods, survival pressures, and several interacting systems make each journey consequential rather than a straightforward sequence of battles.
What is NovaMundi?
NovaMundi combines open-world exploration with real-time tactical combat in a sixteenth-century Andes setting.
Lead a group of warriors across a newly created map each run, recruit people in towns, barter for supplies, and use diplomacy while working toward Muisca unity against Spanish invaders. Caves contain spirits, beasts, mythical creatures, and blessings tied to the land. Travel also involves hunger, disease, wildlife, and hostile groups. Hometown choices provide distinct advantages, while optional perks can remove disease, restrict troop types, remove starting gold, or enable jaguar and spectacled bear allies. Battles include multiple unit types, archers, guardians, and beasts. Wounded individuals need several days to recover, and fallen party members do not return.
How NovaMundi plays
- 01New Run Maps
- A new map is created each time, with mountains and rivers making travel across the Muisca territory difficult.
- 02Muisca Political Campaign
- The main quest combines diplomacy, recruitment, and local assistance to unite the Muisca against invading forces.
- 03Custom Run Perks
- Optional perks can remove disease, restrict troop types, remove starting gold, or enable jaguar and spectacled bear allies.
- 04Real-Time Battles
- Encounters include multiple Muisca warrior classes, archers, guardians, and beasts facing Panche raiders and Spanish invaders.
- 05Wounds and Deaths
- Wounded individuals require several days to heal, while deaths remove them from the party.
NovaMundi compared to similar games
NovaMundi combines open-world exploration, procedural caves, diplomacy, survival pressures, and real-time battles. Shogun Showdown instead uses turn-based combat, attack tiles, skill and deck building, and a roguelike structure, without the listed exploration, recruitment, or diplomacy systems.
