Our take on Noise
Players looking for combat will bounce off the first serious encounter with the creature: there is no weapon or kill option. The central response is to manage light, hide in darkness, wait, and use radio waves to follow its location.
What is Noise?
Set in 1988 near the end of the USSR era, Noise follows a radio amateur investigating a continuous broadcast from a location absent from maps.
The game has no weapons; the radio is the main tool for tuning into signals, contacting people, and tracking the creature. Its story unfolds through conversations, the protagonist's thoughts, and careful examination of locations, with some details easy to miss. A hostile creature explores the same area, responds when lights or flashlights are used, and cannot be killed. Darkness can conceal the protagonist because the creature cannot see there. Radio waves emitted by the creature provide another way to follow its location.
How Noise plays
- 01Radio signal tuning
- Players select frequencies to receive the mysterious broadcast, contact people, or hear USSR radio.
- 02Reactive creature
- The pursuing creature investigates areas where lights or flashlights are used.
- 03Environmental storytelling
- Conversations, inner thoughts, and location details reveal parts of the story, including details that can be missed.
- 04Nonlethal survival
- The protagonist has no weapon, so hiding in darkness and waiting are used against the creature.
