RPGIs Necrocat worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy turn-by-turn grid decisions in card roguelikes
- Strategy fans who want maps with changing sizes, shapes, enemies, and items
- RPG players interested in collecting and upgrading abilities across repeated attempts
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking fixed, predictable encounters may bounce off the escalating monster strength and changing battlefields.
- Players wanting direct action combat may stop at the card-grid movement and selection-based battles.
- Players who prefer immediate access to every ability may find the amulet collection and upgrade progression restrictive.
Our take on Necrocat
The bounce point arrives when repeated soul-fragment goals stop granting another amulet and instead yield corrupted souls. Players who want constant new rewards may find the upgrade system less motivating at that stage.
What is Necrocat?
Necrocat is a card roguelike in which Twilight moves across battlefields made from grids of cards.
Each move can collect an item or start a fight against a monster. Defeated enemies provide rewards and soul fragments, while increasingly strong monsters appear as progress continues. Regions differ in battlefield size and shape, along with their numbers of enemies and items, so item usefulness and movement choices vary between maps. Amulets are earned by reaching soul-fragment goals and can be upgraded with corrupted souls when previously reached goals are repeated. These amulets add abilities and strength for later attempts. The objective is to defeat the summoned undead, collect all of Necrocat’s amulets, and uncover the identity behind the necromancer’s alias.
How Necrocat plays
- 01Grid Card Movement
- Each move lets Twilight gather an item or enter combat on a card-filled battlefield.
- 02Escalating Encounters
- Defeating enemies introduces stronger monsters and provides additional rewards.
- 03Regional Battlefields
- Maps vary in layout, field dimensions, enemy quantities, and item placement.
- 04Amulet Upgrades
- Repeated soul-fragment goals provide corrupted souls for improving collected amulets.
