Our take on Monads
Its defining structure is the changing viewpoint: each chapter follows a different protagonist, while 20 main characters can cooperate or become hostile for their own purposes.
What is Monads?
Monads is a turn-based tactics game with 21 prepared stages and 20 main characters.
Each chapter follows a different protagonist, presenting events from viewpoints that can include a fugitive and a chaser. Combat decisions include whether to kill an enemy, since endangered enemies may run away. Killing or being injured can reduce a character’s will and make that character obtuse, while character nature changes the effects of some factors. The game has no items and no grinding. Rewards are given for opening a new story or achieving a new record. Difficulty settings range from Intro, for players focused on the story, to Legend, for players seeking demanding tactical play.
How Monads plays

- 03Enemy retreat
- An enemy may run away when it is in danger, creating an alternative to killing.
- 04Prepared stages
- The game presents 21 stages arranged around new stories and records.
- 05Variable difficulty
- Difficulty settings range from Intro to Legend.
Monads compared to similar games
Monads presents turn-based tactics across 21 prepared stages, with character will and enemy retreat shaping decisions. Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based combat, but centers on attack-tile upgrades, skill collection, deck building, and roguelike progression.
