Our take on MINDHACK
The premise foregrounds turning evildoers into harmless people, while the described hacking sequence also involves opening memories and learning about their past. That investigative step gives the mind-rewriting premise a character-discovery component.
What is MINDHACK?
MINDHACK is a text adventure set in a world combining fantasy and modern society.
Players take the role of the Doctor, a hacker tasked with removing destructive impulses called BUGs. The story follows the Doctor, a supercomputer, and a security force at an institution created to deal with them, as they face a threat called FATAL ERROR. The adventure sections introduce unusual characters and let players talk with them. In hacking sections, players type code to open memories and learn about a character’s past. A typing sequence then uses keywords connected to that character to rewrite their mind, turning the evildoer into a benign person. Characters include a sea-urchin gang leader, a cult fanatic, and a being from outer space.
How MINDHACK plays
- 01Memory exploration
- Typing code opens a character’s memories, where players can discover their past.
- 02Mind rewriting
- After exploring a character’s memories, players enter a typing sequence using keywords linked to that person.
- 03Animated hands
- The Doctor’s hands remain visible during conversations and move expressively.
