Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a long horror campaign may find the estimated 3–5-hour runtime limited
- Players who prefer combat-focused horror may find the exploration and puzzle structure slower
- Players looking for a broad setting may find the manor-focused environment confined
- Players who want one fixed conclusion may not prefer four endings
Our take on Midnight Special
The compact runtime concentrates the game around one manor, its puzzles, and its four endings, but limits the room available for a longer horror narrative or a larger setting. The two modes provide variation within that focused structure.
What is Midnight Special?
Midnight Special is a point-and-click survival horror game set in Maine in 1987.
Sarah, a babysitter, wakes inside Boyd Manor after the power goes out and must explore the house, interact with objects, and solve puzzles to escape. Strange phone calls, shifting reality, moving objects, unpleasant odors, and a possibly living plastic dinosaur shape the mystery. The full release includes Normal and Hardcore modes, four endings, and one hidden secret. Manual saving becomes available after Sarah answers a phone call and combines a cigarette pack with a lighter through the inventory. The game uses 16-bit pixel art, horror-focused audio cues, and influences from 1970s and 1980s cinema and 1990s games. Estimated total playtime is 3–5 hours.
