Our take on Malebolgia
Rather than treating the environment as a fixed backdrop, the game changes visited areas as time and weather shift. Its combat also rejects the usual escape route: enemies are presented as opponents to defeat, giving the action a slower, more confrontational structure.
What is Malebolgia?
Malebolgia is an atmospheric horror action-adventure set in a demonic palace in Hell's deepest Circle.
Players control Leopold, a battle-worn character fighting through a bleak fortress populated by ghouls, devils, monsters, and bosses. The palace changes with time and weather: night can bring new dangers to previously explored areas, while blizzards may clear routes and fires can block passages with undead enemies. Combat is deliberately paced and centers on using a torch and halberd against foes that must be defeated rather than avoided. The game uses cel-shaded visuals built around contrasts between light and shadow. Its characters and story draw from Dante Alighieri's Inferno, the Ars Goetia, and European history at the start of the 20th century.
How Malebolgia plays

- Time and weather alter explored locations, introducing fresh threats and changing available routes.
- 02Deliberate Combat
- Leopold uses a torch and halberd to confront demons, beasts, and bosses directly.
- 03Cel-Shaded Presentation
- The visual style uses strong differences between illumination and darkness to shape the atmosphere.
