Is Madcap Mosaic worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike fans who want deckbuilding centered on a board rather than a hand of cards
- Strategy players who enjoy planning routes through branching tile choices
- Players who like experimenting with tile combinations and adapting to random traits
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a conventional card-hand deckbuilder may find the board-based tile system too different
- Players who prefer fixed builds may find the generated Lattice and random run traits too unpredictable
- Players seeking a story-led adventure may find the focus on drafting, battles, and run-based strategy too narrow
Our take on Madcap Mosaic
Deckbuilders commonly center play on cards drawn into a hand; here, the deck becomes a traversable board. Tile selection also follows branching routes through a generated Lattice, replacing a simple post-battle pick with path planning.
What is Madcap Mosaic?
Madcap Mosaic is a fantasy roguelike combining tile drafting and deckbuilding.
Cards are placed on the table as tiles, turning the deck into a board that the avatar crosses during play. Each game creates a Lattice from more than 170 unique tiles. Players choose routes through this structure to reach additional tiles, combining deckbuilding, drafting, and skill-tree decisions before taking the Mosaic into battle. Two random traits from a pool of more than 80 shape each run. Tile synergies and combo potential support different strategies as the player faces monsters and tries to survive the gauntlet. Unlockable tiles, traits, and aesthetic options add further choices and open additional strategies across runs.
How Madcap Mosaic plays
- 01Board-Based Deck
- The avatar crosses the tile layout and uses the tiles during battles.
- 02Branching Tile Draft
- A randomly formed Lattice provides routes to additional tiles instead of a separate selection after each battle.
- 03Random Run Traits
- Each run includes two traits selected from a pool of more than 80.
- 04Unlockable Content
- Success can open additional tiles, traits, and aesthetic options.
Madcap Mosaic compared to similar games
Shogun Showdown also uses attack tiles, combos, and deckbuilding, but its description centers on turn-based combat, positioning, and timing attacks. Madcap Mosaic makes the tile arrangement a board the avatar traverses and uses a branching Lattice for tile selection.
