We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Survival-horror players who want to manage scarce supplies while exploring
- First-person exploration fans who prefer compass headings to a traditional map
- Fantasy-horror players interested in uncovering a story through environmental texts and memories
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who need a conventional map may hit a navigation wall when exploring by compass headings alone.
- Players who want a combat-focused experience may find the emphasis on evasion, hiding, and rationing restrictive.
- Players looking for a multiplayer game may not find the group play they want.
Our take on Lurk
The clearest bounce point is navigation: players who rely on a traditional map will have to orient themselves using compass headings instead. Those expecting every encounter to center on fighting may also hit a wall when supplies are scarce and evasion is part of survival.
What is Lurk?
Lurk is a first-person survival horror game set in a medieval fantasy world.
Players take the role of Mercer, a sellsword scout and the sole survivor of a mercenary company killed by demons. Explore the Farlands, where hostile creatures roam freely and can pursue the player. Survival involves scavenging for supplies and rationing them, while navigation relies on an in-world compass rather than a traditional map. Players can run, hide, or fight. Ancient texts, scattered notes, and memories reveal lore as Mercer investigates the destruction of the company and the demonic invasion. Environments include a dark forest, rocky crags, and a dimension of torment.
How Lurk plays
- 01Compass Navigation
- The in-world compass provides headings, with no traditional map for navigating the Farlands.
- 02Roaming Demons
- Monsters move freely through the open world and may pursue Mercer.
- 03Scavenged Supplies
- Survival involves finding provisions in the world and rationing them.
- 04Scattered Lore
- Ancient writings, notes, and memories reveal information about the world and the mercenary company’s fate.
