RPGIs Lost Flame worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike fans who want turn-based combat built around positioning and dodging
- RPG players who prefer equipment-driven character builds and varied weapon tactics
- Players seeking a long-form fantasy game with procedural runs and permanent death
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a forgiving combat system, since individual moves can decide fights and mistakes can cause quick deaths
- Players who prefer a steady power curve, since the character remains fragile even with strong equipment
- Players looking for a fixed, hand-crafted adventure rather than procedural content and permadeath
Our take on Lost Flame
Instead of treating turn-based melee as repeated contact with an enemy, the game makes positioning, movement, and attack avoidance central. Weapon choice changes the shape of each encounter, while a relatively flat power curve keeps equipment from removing the danger of individual mistakes.
What is Lost Flame?
Lost Flame is a roguelike RPG set in the ruined kingdom of Hiraeth.
Exploration uses procedural content and permadeath, while combat is turn-based and centers on movement, positioning, stamina, and dodging attacks. Weapons provide different special attacks and combat approaches, from mobile short-sword lunges to broad halberd strikes. Enemies include large multitile creatures with distinct abilities. Character builds are determined by carried items, including more than 120 possible ring and amulet types, equipment enchantments, and scroll-based customization. The game includes unidentified potions and scrolls that become identified when the character gains a level. Music, sound effects, and recorded NPC voiceovers accompany more than 100 hours of content.
How Lost Flame plays
- 01Position-Based Combat
- Melee attacks rely on movement, spacing, and dodging rather than repeatedly colliding with enemies.
- 02Weapon-Specific Attacks
- Weapon types such as short swords, halberds, spears, greatswords, axes, and maces provide different special moves and tactical roles.
- 03Multitile Enemies
- Large enemies occupy multiple grid tiles and can have distinct traits or abilities.
- 04Build Customization
- Equipment, rings, amulets, magical enchants, and scrolls determine the character's abilities.
- 05Procedural Permadeath
- Runs use procedural content and end with the character's death.
- 06Stamina Management
- Special attacks consume stamina, and exhaustion prevents their use while increasing incoming damage.
