Our take on Goblin Stone
The warm, storybook framing sits alongside permanent losses, difficult survival choices, and goblin sacrifice. Colony management and lineage planning are central systems, so the game is not simply a lighthearted adventure about rescuing a small group of characters.
What is Goblin Stone?
Goblin Stone is a turn-based RPG about preserving a goblin population threatened by adventurers.
Players rebuild a lair room by room, expand the colony, and assemble parties by combining classes, abilities, genes, and traits. Combat uses positioning to determine the order in which fighters act. Expeditions take place across procedurally generated routes and include choices about which paths to follow and which goblins to sacrifice. Permadeath raises the consequences of each run. The game combines colony management, party breeding, tactical battles, and a storybook-inspired presentation. Goblins face adventurers, elves, and dwarves while working toward an end to the groups hunting them.
How Goblin Stone plays
- 01Goblin Colony Management
- The lair expands through rooms including a Barracks and War Room as the population develops.
- 02Inherited Goblin Traits
- Breeding combines genes and characteristics to shape later generations of goblins.
- 03Position-Based Combat
- The placement of combatants determines when their actions occur during battles.
- 04Procedural Expeditions
- Each adventure generates routes with decisions about direction and survival.
- 05Permadeath Runs
- Goblins can be permanently lost during expeditions, including through deliberate sacrifice.
Goblin Stone compared to similar games
Goblin Stone combines turn-based positioning with goblin colony construction, breeding, and party genetics. Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based roguelike combat, but centers on attack tiles, combos, skills, and deck building rather than managing a population and developing a lair.
