Our take on Little Gods of the Abyss
Its indirect storytelling and atmospheric stages leave less room for explicit narrative guidance. The trade-off is that players must interpret symbols, direction, space, and emotion while progressing.
What is Little Gods of the Abyss?
Little Gods of the Abyss is a three-dimensional platforming adventure set in a fractured realm of quiet woodlands, abandoned remains, and warped geometric environments.
Nia, a small deity able to repair and renew gateways, journeys toward the Primal Gate. Progress relies on leaping, evasion, combat, and hazards that demand precise timing. Puzzles require examining altered areas and determining routes through them. Along the way, Nia collects musical stars that restore energy to dormant gateways, allowing access onward and helping revive the world's interrupted movement. Instead of explaining events directly, the game communicates its narrative through visual signs, mood, spatial design, direction, and feeling. Each region creates its own atmosphere while Nia attempts to repair a world left in ruins.
How Little Gods of the Abyss plays
- 01Gate restoration
- Nia repairs gates, while stars filled with music activate those that have closed.
- 02Platforming challenges
- Progress involves jumps, dodges, attacks, and obstacles that depend on timing.
- 03Symbolic storytelling
- The narrative uses symbols, atmosphere, direction, space, and emotion instead of direct explanations.
