Our take on Liminal Void
The page emphasizes forgiving deaths and access to most content, but the core route still includes resource management, random layer movement, and difficult Void God fights. A stated version 1.1 feature list appears alongside the current game, so those additions should not be treated as available now.
What is Liminal Void?
Liminal Void is an art-horror dungeon crawler about moving through layers toward the void.
Players gather sigils to fuel spells and portals, steal souls from dangerous entities to expand their spell options and extend the death counter, or destroy enemies directly. Death advances the run to a random next layer while reducing opportunities to collect sigils. Four characters have distinct stories and playstyles, with companion and player choices contributing to 16 endings. The game includes 32 spells, 12 skills, a score based on kills, soul snatches, and sigil collection, and more than 40 types of liminal entities. Reaching layer 444 leads to a confrontation with the Void Gods, which have very high health.
How Liminal Void plays
- 01Layered Dungeon Progression
- Portals or death move the run onward through randomly selected layers until layer 444.
- 02Soul-Based Spellcasting
- Captured souls provide additional spell resources and add time to the death counter.
- 03Sigil Resource System
- Sigils pay for spells and safe portal travel, while stronger spells require more of them.
- 04Four Playable Characters
- Each character has an individual story and playstyle.
- 05Multiple Endings
- Player and companion decisions lead to 16 different conclusions.
- 06Enemy Variety
- More than 40 liminal entity types have differing types, statistics, and spells.
- 07Death-Based Advancement
- Dying carries no stated penalty but sends the character to another layer and costs opportunities to gather sigils.
Liminal Void compared to similar games
Liminal Void and Vagante both use dungeon-crawling structures in dark fantasy or horror settings, but Liminal Void centers on sigils, soul collection, spells, death-based layer progression, and 16 endings. Vagante's description instead emphasizes adventuring through a monster-filled dark fantasy world in pursuit of fame, riches, and power.
