Our take on Life Eater
The premise presents the ritual as a yearly race against the end of the world, but the player’s immediate work is methodical schedule analysis and target selection. The horror therefore comes through intrusion, planning, and uncertainty about whether the served dark god exists.
What is Life Eater?
Life Eater is a horror-fantasy game about a modern druid living in suburbia while maintaining a dead-end job and preparing an annual ritual.
Each year requires sacrificing specific people whose identities are only partly described. A timeline interface modeled after video-editing tools reveals pieces of targets’ lives through their schedules. The player studies these routines, selects a moment to abduct each target, and acts before authorities locate the lair. The story combines authored material with generated elements and includes voiced performances from Xalavier Nelson Jr. and Jarret Griffis. An Endless mode extends the premise across decades with procedurally generated targets. David Mason, composer of DREDGE, provides the original atmospheric music.
