- Players looking for cooperative or multiplayer play are not the target audience for this single-player game
Our take on Kromlech
Rather than centering on a fixed heroic arc, the game ties identity to consequences: actions can lead toward becoming either the world's needed hero or its threatening menace. Its sandbox structure also replaces a strictly directed adventure with a setting built around reactivity and player choice.
What is Kromlech?
Kromlech is a single-player action-adventure RPG set in a dark fantasy world influenced by European Iron Age cultures and sword-and-sorcery fiction.
It combines action combat, immersive-sim elements, and rogue-lite structure. The hand-built world functions as a reactive sandbox where players can uncover secrets, take treasures, and decide how their actions affect the setting. Character development includes modifying equipment with words of power, using brews and warpaint, refining combat abilities, making offerings to gods, and improving through practice. Combat supports targeted attacks, armor damage, heavy strikes, and movement through groups of enemies. Progress comes from challenges, deeds, quests, and renown, which grant epithets with special effects.
How Kromlech plays
- 01Reactive Sandbox
- The hand-crafted world contains secrets and responds to the adventurer's actions.
- 02Build Customization
- Equipment inscriptions, brews, warpaint, combat training, and divine sacrifices provide different ways to shape a character.
- 03Layered Combat
- Fights support precision attacks, armor destruction, forceful blows, and evasive movement.
- 04Renown Progression
- Challenges, heroic deeds, dangerous enemies, and quests grant renown and epithets.
Kromlech compared to similar games
Ghost of a Tale also combines action-RPG exploration with immersion, but centers on stealth, disguises, and conversations in a medieval world populated by animals. Kromlech instead focuses on a dark fantasy sandbox, build customization, and direct combat. Vagante shares the dark-fantasy pursuit of fame and riches, while Kromlech adds a reactive world, immersive-sim elements, and character progression through equipment, rituals, and renown.
