Our take on KOBOLD: Chapter I
The cinematic approach gives the story a film introduction and carefully scanned setting, but that focus leaves the experience centered on one investigation rather than a broad set of activities.
What is KOBOLD: Chapter I?
KOBOLD: Chapter I is a room-scale VR horror experience about an urban explorer investigating a missing boy’s case.
Explore an abandoned villa in a forest in Germany, use a flashlight, collect clues, solve a mystery and enter a mythical underworld drawing on European folklore and pagan mythology. Player actions can have consequences. A short film, available free on the KOBOLD website, introduces the setting, characters and the boy’s family backstory before the VR story. The villa and its surroundings were scanned from a real location in Brandenburg, while actors were scanned and brought into VR using motion and facial capture. The experience is built for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and combines free movement with interactive exploration.
