ActionIs Kate: Collateral Damage worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action roguelike players who want runs governed by a steadily draining timer
- Players who enjoy adapting to combat by replacing weapons with limited ammunition
- Fans of close-quarters action who want a companion to provide abilities in fights
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who prefer forgiving combat may hit a wall when Kate and many enemies can die in one or two hits.
- Players who want unhurried encounters may bounce off the constantly depleting timer and the need to kill enemies to slow it.
- Players looking for a weapon they can keep using throughout a run may dislike discarding guns and melee weapons as their limited ammunition runs out.
Our take on Kate: Collateral Damage
The main point of friction is the countdown: time keeps draining, and kills only slow it. Players who need room to pause and assess each fight may hit a wall before the weapon swapping and between-level upgrades can shape a run.
What is Kate: Collateral Damage?
Play as Kate, an assassin pursuing the Yakuza leader responsible for poisoning her.
Fight across Tokyo’s underworld in an action roguelike built around a race against a shrinking death timer. Defeating enemies slows its progress, while syringes obtained during play can restore the timer or automatically protect Kate from a killing blow. Firearms and close-combat weapons found on foes or in the surroundings have limited ammunition, requiring replacements as situations change. Ani, Kate’s hostage and companion, contributes special combat abilities. Kate and most enemies can be defeated in one or two strikes, placing emphasis on fast reactions and choosing threats. Between stages during a run, Kate gains lasting improvements alongside short-term bonuses that increase her damage and durability.
