Play it if you…
Good fit- Puzzle players who enjoy constructing and refining automated production lines
- Simulation fans interested in manufacturing challenges set in 1980s Japan
- Creative players who want to share animated views of their solutions
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly scripted campaign may find the open-ended structure less directed
- Those wanting combat, exploration, or role-playing systems will find the focus centered on factory engineering
- Players uninterested in optimization puzzles may find repeated production-line refinement too narrow
Our take on Kaizen: A Factory Story
The open-ended factory focus gives up broader activity variety: most of the main play revolves around designing and refining production lines. Pachi-Sol adds a separate diversion, but it does not change the central emphasis on manufacturing puzzles.
What is Kaizen: A Factory Story?
Set in 1986 Japan, this open-ended puzzle automation game follows David Sugimoto, a newcomer assigned to factory work at Matsuzawa Manufacturing.
Players plan and construct production lines for items such as calculators, camcorders, and arcade machines, using operations including welding, riveting, cutting, and drilling. Designs can be optimized around simplicity, speed, and appearance, then exported as animated GIFs for sharing. The game also includes Pachi-Sol, a pachinko-themed solitaire game for breaks between factory projects. Its structure combines a workplace story with open-ended engineering puzzles rather than a fixed production campaign.
