Is JUNKPUNK worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Factory-building players who prefer gradually automating production over managing only manual crafting
- Exploration fans who want to search varied biomes for materials, technology, and story
- Players who want a planet-restoration setting with plant growth and base construction
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for a tightly directed sequence of missions may find the emphasis on open-world exploration and self-managed production less structured.
- Players seeking short sessions built around quick action may find the crafting, resource processing, and automation cycle gradual.
- Players who want a competitive multiplayer focus may not find it here; multiplayer is presented as cooperative planet restoration.
Our take on JUNKPUNK
Rather than centering on combat or a sequence of missions, JUNKPUNK puts factory progression inside an exploration and planet-restoration loop. Players move from gathering and hand crafting toward automated production, while plant growth and energy management are part of changing the environment.
What is JUNKPUNK?
JUNKPUNK combines factory management, base building, and exploration on a planet damaged by a runaway event.
After a spacecraft crash, players collect scrap, recycle and refine it, then craft tools and equipment. Production can begin with manual crafting and expand into automated workflows using machines. The world is a handcrafted open environment with different biomes and locations where players can find items, technology, and story. Growing plants involves collecting seeds and managing soil, water, and power; plants are used to change the planet’s atmosphere.
Players can build a custom base from pieces found and processed on the surface. Dust storms and strong winds affect the environment, while solar and wind energy can be stored in batteries to keep automated crafting running. The game supports up to 5 players and can also be played solo.
How JUNKPUNK plays
- 01Automated production
- Workflows can develop from manual crafting into machine-based production that runs with stored battery power.
- 02Plant cultivation
- Growing vegetation requires seeds and management of soil, water, and power, and the plants contribute to changing the atmosphere.
- 03Renewable energy
- Solar and wind generation fluctuate, with batteries available to store backup power.
- 04Multiplayer and solo play
- A session supports up to 5 players, while solo play is also available.
JUNKPUNK compared to similar games
Mr. Prepper focuses on building an underground shelter and preparing for a nuclear threat, while JUNKPUNK centers on restoring a planet through resource processing, base construction, and automation. Bear and Breakfast is about running a bed and breakfast; JUNKPUNK instead builds production workflows and grows plants to alter the atmosphere.
