Our take on Iron Dungeon
The defining detail is the absence of meta-progression: after death, each attempt starts from the beginning, leaving skill and random item selection as the basis for progress.
What is Iron Dungeon?
Iron Dungeon combines twin-stick shooting, 2D platforming, and roguelite structure.
As a combat clone, the player explores an underground military complex that has resumed producing combat clones, searching for a route to the surface and signs of life on Earth. The game includes dozens of weapons, gadgets, upgrades, and randomly selected items. Players dodge bullets, aim at enemies, activate platforms, and use jump boosters to reach difficult areas of the underground maze. Defeated enemies provide shards that can be spent on improvements. Each run uses a different maze, and death sends the player back to the beginning. There is no meta-progression, so progress depends on skill and the items found during each attempt.
How Iron Dungeon plays
- 01Twin-Stick Shooting
- Combat takes place throughout the underground complex as players aim at enemies and dodge incoming bullets.
- 02Platforming Routes
- Activated platforms and jump boosters provide access to difficult-to-reach parts of the maze.
- 03Randomized Mazes
- Each attempt uses a different maze and offers dozens of randomly selected items.
- 04Shard Improvements
- Defeated enemies provide shards that can be spent on improvements.
- 05Run Resets
- Death returns the player to the beginning, with no meta-progression between attempts.
Iron Dungeon compared to similar games
Abyssus is a multiplayer shooting roguelite with hand-crafted levels and weapons that can be refitted with ancient technologies. Iron Dungeon instead combines shooting with 2D platforming, randomized mazes, jump boosters, and a run reset after death.
