Our take on Iridium
Free movement and large maps give the game room for exploration, but they also require players to track off-screen threats and navigation markers. The six-level structure limits the campaign's overall scope despite its 24 maps and varied upgrade systems.
What is Iridium?
Iridium is a retro-styled, multidirectional 2D shoot-'em-up with free movement through large maps.
Players can change direction and speed rather than follow a fixed scrolling pace, while edge indicators mark off-screen enemies, structures, and the route forward. The game contains 6 levels, each divided into 4 stages, for 24 maps in total. Each stage includes enemy ships, larger multi-part vessels, pickups, and changing attack patterns. Weapons and systems can be upgraded during stages with collected credits, while a shop between sectors uses virtual coins for further ship upgrades. Checkpoints reduce repeated traversal, and progress can be saved from the shop. The game supports game controllers, including arcade sticks.
