ActionIs Ilum worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players interested in ancient Babylonian and Biblical settings who want historical buildings and inscriptions.
- Open-world explorers who want to enter furnished buildings and travel across a large map.
- Action players who want city destruction, idol-god battles, and character conversion mechanics.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking branching quests may find the 100-quest progression restrictive because the quests are linear and checkpoint-based.
- Players wanting a focused combat game may hit a wall when progression requires exploration, writing activities, building entry, and character conversion.
- Players who do not want destruction as a central activity may not suit the city's object-destruction systems.
Our take on Ilum
Players looking for branching story progression may bounce off when they reach the quest structure: 100 linear objectives use indicated checkpoints to unlock the next stage, leaving little room for alternate routes through the campaign.
What is Ilum?
Explore an open-world recreation of ancient Babylon and nearby cities in 539 BC, with action, exploration, and city destruction.
The map covers 224 km2 and includes furnished buildings that can be entered, from houses and temples to palaces and ziggurats. Objects can be destroyed to release points. Thousands of characters across 20 social classes inhabit the cities; defeating their patron idol gods can convert them and make them playable. Progress follows 100 linear quests with checkpoints. The game also includes cuneiform writing based on collected syllables, Akkadian voice acting, five changeable weather modes, and buildings based on archaeological findings and cuneiform inscriptions.
