Our take on ICED VR
The focused survival setup keeps attention on cold, supplies, and rescue timing, but it leaves less room for broader systems such as construction, combat, or open-ended progression.
What is ICED VR?
After a snowstorm breaks the ice around a fishing tent, the protagonist must remain alive until a rescue helicopter arrives.
Survival involves monitoring health, searching abandoned fishermen’s belongings for food, water, medicine, and burner gas, and managing supplies that extend survival for several hours. Dreams present challenges tied to the protagonist’s mental state, with worsening condition making survival tasks harder. Unpredictable cold and poor visibility can make travel between the tent and the surrounding ice dangerous. Players can collect snow in a bottle, melt water over time in the tent, use a signal gun when the helicopter approaches, and teleport across broken ice or into and out of the tent.
How ICED VR plays
- 01Survival Monitoring
- Health indicators must be watched while supplies determine how long the protagonist can remain alive.
- 02Scavenged Supplies
- Food, water, medicine, and fuel can be found among belongings left by other fishermen.
- 03Mental Challenges
- Dream sequences reflect the protagonist’s state of mind and introduce increasingly difficult challenges as it worsens.
- 04Changing Weather
- Sudden temperature drops and limited visibility make movement away from the tent more dangerous.
- 05VR Teleportation
- Teleport movement can cross broken ice and provide access to the tent.
ICED VR compared to similar games
Mr. Prepper also uses a survival premise, but centers on building an underground shelter, crafting, and preparing for nuclear war. ICED VR instead focuses on surviving exposure on broken lake ice, searching for supplies, managing health, and waiting for a rescue helicopter.
