The premise emphasizes a journey by four distinct fish, but the practical focus is on difficult control and navigating hazards in fragile, improvised containers. That challenge is central to play, not just a brief obstacle on the way to the ocean.
What is I Am Fish?
Four fish are separated from their pet shop home and must make their way across Barnardshire to the open ocean.
Each has a different way to move: the goldfish swims, the pufferfish inflates and rolls, the piranha bites, and the flying fish glides. Levels involve swimming, rolling, gliding, biting and navigating improvised water carriers such as jars and mop buckets. The fish face hazards on roads, rooftops and around wildlife, while their containers can break and they can run out of air. When a fish falls too far, runs out of air or otherwise fails, play resumes at the latest checkpoint. The controls are intentionally challenging, so guiding the fish through these obstacles calls for repeated attempts.
