Our take on House of Hell (Standalone)
The defining constraint is FEAR: allowing the score to rise too high can end the adventure by frightening the character to death.
What is House of Hell (Standalone)?
House of Hell is a horror-filled adventure gamebook set in the Earl of Drumer’s malevolent mansion.
The player takes the role of a traveler who seeks shelter from a storm and encounters ghosts, ghouls, and zombies inside. FEAR points track the character’s danger during the adventure; gaining too many can result in being scared to death. This PC and Mac edition presents the gamebook in full colour, with dice rolling for battles, an adventure sheet that updates automatically, and automatic stat keeping. Originally written by Steve Jackson in 1984, it is available as a standalone edition. This version is separate from House of Hell in the Fighting Fantasy Classics library, and purchasing one does not unlock the other.
