Our take on HomestarVR
The bounce point arrives when the novelty of entering a star field wears off: the experience offers sky viewing through three modes, but no stated objectives, challenges, or progression system to carry a conventional game session forward.
What is HomestarVR?
HomestarVR presents a simulated starry sky through three modes: World Sky Time Travel, Full Celestial Planetarium, and Starry Sky Selection.
The planetarium view extends the sky around and below the viewer, creating a VR sense of depth. The application uses sky data based on NASA data and can recreate the sky for a birthday or special anniversary. Starry Sky Selection includes locations known for their starry skies, a Milky Way scene, and a location where an aurora appears. The application presents 2,500,000 stars and focuses on viewing celestial scenery rather than conventional game mechanics.
