We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Picross fans who want puzzles on a hexagonal grid rather than a conventional grid
- Puzzle players who prefer untimed levels and solving at their own pace
- Players seeking a fixed set of 240 levels divided across six grid sizes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want a brisk pace may find the untimed, self-paced puzzle format slow.
- Players seeking a wide range of activities may find the experience centered on one puzzle mechanic: matching column and diagonal counts.
- Players who want randomly generated levels may not enjoy the fixed, recreated level set.
Our take on Hex Picross
The point of friction is the count-matching loop: every puzzle asks players to work through intersections between columns and diagonals until the counts reach zero. Anyone expecting varied activities may hit that wall once the core hex-grid mechanic is established.
What is Hex Picross?
Hex Picross is a nonogram puzzle game played on a hexagonal grid.
Color cells so the counts for each column and diagonal reach zero; solving all the intersections completes a level. The game has 240 levels across six grid sizes: 3x3x3, 4x4x4, 5x5x5, 6x6x6, 7x7x7 and 9x9x9, with 40 levels in each size. Levels are arranged in six difficulty modes and create images as they are solved. A tutorial introduces the puzzle rules. Players can mark negative cells with the right mouse button and highlight a column by clicking it. The game has no timer, and includes music and sound effects, a dark mode, window resizing, Steam Cloud and Steam achievements.
