Our take on Helping Hand
Rather than relying on movement and direct dialogue, the game makes finger combinations the means of communication and interaction. Its central constraint is the character’s single usable hand, turning a small set of gestures into the main way to engage with people and the environment.
What is Helping Hand?
Helping Hand is a game about communicating with characters and interacting with environments using only the left hand.
The premise is that a car accident has left the character unable to use the rest of their body. Players bend individual fingers to combine them into gestures, with up to seven unique gestures available. Reactions from other characters matter: angering someone can put the character’s life at risk. Progress involves opening new environments, with the possibility of ruling the world. The game uses a keyboard and mouse, assigning separate inputs to the fingers; the default layout uses keys 1 through 4 and Space for the thumb. Finger inputs can be changed in the game, and an instruction screen provides guidance.
How Helping Hand plays

- Separate keyboard inputs bend each finger, and the in-game assignments can be changed.
- 02Character interactions
