Our take on Heartworm
The defining detail is its camera-based combat: Sam uses a camera to defend herself while the game shifts between fixed viewpoints and over-the-shoulder aiming.
What is Heartworm?
Heartworm follows Sam into a supposedly supernatural mountain house as she searches for a way to contact her deceased grandfather.
The game combines exploration, classic puzzles, limited combat, and a psychologically focused story about grief and loss. A camera serves as Sam’s weapon during encounters. Play alternates between fixed-camera scenes and third-person over-the-shoulder aiming, with optional tank controls alongside the modern control scheme. Optional pixelation and other retro effects evoke early 3D console visuals. The game includes both pre-rendered and in-game cutscenes, an original soundtrack, and a 4–6-hour campaign with multiple endings.
