Our take on Gooblins
Rather than treating shooting as the sole scoring task, Gooblins adds a color-order requirement tied to the weapon display. Its wave structure also combines 360-degree movement with an optional 180-degree mode, replacing a fixed-arena perspective with positional awareness.
What is Gooblins?
Gooblins is a first-person shooter for HTC Vive built around surviving endless waves of attacking creatures.
Gooblins use plasma blasts, fireballs, and kamikaze assaults, while their offensive strength and defenses increase across successive waves. The player can use a weapon, an energy shield in the other hand, and grenades with separate grip controls. A machine gun becomes available during progression and can rapidly eliminate Gooblins without shields. Scoring depends on matching enemy colors in the sequence shown on the weapon display, adding a pattern task to the shooting. Play takes place across 360 degrees, with a 180-degree option. Different Gooblin types attack in distinct ways, and leaderboard scores track performance.
How Gooblins plays
- 01Color-based scoring
- The weapon display shows the sequence required for higher leaderboard scores.
- 02Two-handed combat
- A shield can defend against plasma and fireballs while the other hand holds a weapon.
- 03Timed grenades
- Grenades use the gun grip to launch and the shield grip to trigger detonation.
- 04Variable play areas
- The game supports 360-degree play and a 180-degree mode.
- 05Unlockable machine gun
- Progression makes a machine gun available for attacking Gooblins without shields.
